The arrival of a newborn in the family is a joyful experience. With the new-born, mommies always have their hands full. The Preparations before the arrival of the baby will not exert you later. Let us find out what all we need to do before the arrival of the baby.

Things to keep in the delivery bag of Mommies for the hospital

  1. Id cards of both the parents.

2. Medical aid or health insurance card- Make sure you are fully aware of what is covered under the health insurance policy you have bought and what is the estimate of things for which you have to pay during your stay in the hospital.

3. Feeding pillow- It is essential for all the new mothers as it gives support to the head of a newborn.

4. Gown- I am not a big fan of cotton gowns, but would suggest you keep a few of them with you for delivery. They are very comfortable as they are loose and open from the front, which is useful while nursing the baby.

5. Disposable underwears are helpful after delivery and especially if you go for a c-section.

6. Nursing bras are a must-have for all pregnant females if your due date is around.

7.  Sanitary pads- Be it a c-section or a normal delivery, sanitary pads are one of the primary things you are going to use. So, ensure you buy a good stock of them before your delivery. In many cases, it is provided by the hospital. But ensure you have some in your maternity bag, and good stock in your home.

8. Phone charger and Phone- Before leaving home on the delivery day, ensure you keep your mobile and charger in your mommy’s delivery bag. You want to share the good news with your friends and family and want to connect them on social media, so don’t forget to keep it in your bag.

9. Toiletries

  • Comb
  • Soap/ Face Wash
  • Face cream
  • Body lotion
  • Normal hair band to tie up your hair
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

10.  Slippers: You don’t have to keep it in your bag, but ensure you are wearing it before you leave for the hospital. Comfy flip flops are helpful when you are going to the bathroom or moving around in the hospital during your stay.

11.  Clothes- You would not like to go out in a gown after you are finally discharged from the hospital with your baby. Ensure you keep a pair of nice clothes for that day.

12.  Sleeping mask and earplugs: Rest after the delivery is very important for a speedy recovery. So, keep sleeping masks and earplugs with you for plenty of sound sleep during your stay in the hospital.

13.  Facial tissues or wipes- It is difficult to go to the washroom frequently after the operation. Keep facial tissues and wipes with you to clean your face and look fresh and tidy.

  1. Magazines or books- For you and your attendant during your stay in the hospital to combat boredom.
  2. Small notebook and pen- To note down anything important or to make a list of things you want your family members to buy from the market.
  3. Some petty cash- Your family members or your husband will be around and keep visiting you during your stay in the hospital. Therefore, no need to keep a huge amount of cash or your debit/credit cards with you. But you can keep petty cash in your mommy bag to buy tea and coffee for yourself if no one is around.
  4. Some bedsheet or blankets
  5. Extra bedding for the family member who stays with you in the hospital

Other Preparations for you Before the Arrival of the Baby

  • If you are the one taking care of paying all the utility bills, then ensure you do it in advance, you are not going to get time afterward.
  • Keep a good stock of groceries in your home.
  • Check the validity of your health insurance. If the expiry is close to your due date, ensure you renew it in advance.
  • Arrange your wardrobe
  • Keep the baby’s wardrobe and necessities ready.
  • Keep some Domestic Help- After the delivery of the baby, ensure you have domestic help for cleaning, dusting, and cooking.

  • Learn about the manual and electric breast milk pumping machines available in the market as a part of the preparations before the arrival of the baby. So if after delivery, you come across the problem in feeding the baby directly, you have a handful of information about the alternative methods.
  • It is very tough for others to realize how much work is too much for a new mother. Make Sure you sort that beforehand the tasks which you will do and the tasks which you are going to assign to others.

Useful Tips

Continuously engaging yourself in household chores and baby’s work will make you tired and irritable.

Due to the excessive work, after the baby, most of the mothers do not get time to relax and rejuvenate. Therefore, it is often seen new mothers end up feeling sad and go into postpartum depression.

The other family members also fail to realize your mental stature and are not able to do much about it.

So expecting females need to take care of tasks and analyze things before delivery, as after the baby comes in, they will have a lot on their plate.

After delivery, the period is the best time in a mother’s life as your baby is with you and close to you all the time.

All mothers should enjoy this period to the fullest.

One can relish this time only if necessary, preparations before the arrival of the baby are made beforehand.

Adequate preparations in advance will always save you from a bit more than you can chew.

Take the help of other family members and maids, outsource unnecessary jobs to enjoy your journey to motherhood.
