How 10 Simple Ways Can Make Festivals Fun During Pandemic
Festivals are celebrated with full vigour by everyone in our country.
Festivals add happiness, enthusiasm, and memories to our lives.
We always love colorful streets full of people buying lots of stuff. Local shopkeepers also look forward to festivals for good earnings.
But due to COVID19 this year is different for everyone.
The Coronavirus already has adversely affected daily life and the people around us.
Even if the shops are open, it is not advisable to go to the market or any crowded place.
As we know, social distancing is essential in fighting the spread of coronavirus.
Due to Pandemic, many people have canceled their plans to travel.
Life has become dull and boring, with no friends and distant family members around.
In such circumstances, it would not be easy to celebrate any festival as people should maintain social distancing.
Everyone is looking forward to celebrating festivals but without any gathering. It may sound dull and boring.
So, what can we do to add fun and excitement to our lives this year during the festival time?
Let us find out 10 simple ways that can make festivals fun during a Pandemic.
1. Plan Fun ways to celebrate the festival– Try to do some creative activities to keep yourself occupied. Start your day with some fitness challenges and exercises that you can try out from home without having to leave the house. Learn some new drawing, painting, crafting, sewing, culinary, or any handicraft skills.
Try them out with family members this festive season. Make a timetable for the whole day. Devote time in a planned way to make the most of your time and have fun as well. Do household work and fun activities, watch movies, read books, do things which you like doing.
2. Clean the house– Home determines the mood and atmosphere for you and your family. Cleaning helps to keep your family healthy. To keep everything neat will help reduce stress and clear the clutter. Take one corner at a time. Delegate the task to clean the house to all the family members in a small portion. Do it as a group activity. It will not stress you and others before the festival. Start the cleaning work a month before the festival season.
3. Decorating the house– A decorated home can put you at ease and make your family more comfortable and beautiful. Every year people get their house painted before festivals, but this year it is not possible. So I have decided to take each room at a time, divide it into four parts, and then think about what I can do to improvise the look of each corner. Firstly I remove the junk from that corner and keep only the things required. There are several ways you can give a new look to your walls. Change the color theme of your bedroom and living room. Make Rangoli with flowers and colours on the floor. These activities will add newness to your home and freshness to your life. I am not a designer, but these little tips and tricks work well for me. You can also try them and see for yourself the new lease of life in your home.
4. Lighting for home- Decorate with candles, lamps, and plants, or anything that brings out your personality and taste. Good lighting sets the mood, concentration, and makes you more productive.
5. Shopping- Nowadays, no one needs to go out and face the crowd when everything is accessible online with merely a click. It is one of the most convenient ways of doing shopping. We get more variety at better prices. We can send gifts more easily during festivals through online purchases.
We can also contact our local shopkeepers and see their pictures of the product online and can make purchases from them. Many shopkeepers are still not able to sell their products on big online companies and are suffering huge losses due to coronavirus.
So, purchasing from them will improve their earnings and will help you stand with the slogan given by our honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi- Vocal for Local.
6. Make sweets and snacks- Trying homemade cuisine contributes to healthier diets and reduces calories. It saves a lot of money and reduces the guilt of having an overdose of outside food during festivals. Home-cooked meals have less sugar, which can result in higher energy levels and better mental health. Involve kids also in cooking is a life skill that kids can also learn and practice. The experience of creating meals with you can help kids build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits.
7. Play with the entire family– Festivals are the time to relax and enjoy with family. It also helps to form a lasting connection between family members and boost creativity. Kids can play board games, cards, read books, and can do some painting and planting activities with the elders. It will make fun, learning, and bonding to happen at one go.
8. Virtual gathering with Friends and Family- It is hard to imagine festivals without friends and family. But rather than letting the pandemic spoil the celebrations, many have come together through virtual parties while keeping a safe social distance to surprise one another on special occasions.
Virtual celebrations can happen on video chatting apps like zoom, Google Meet, and Skype, etc. The whole extended family members and friends can catch-up together on virtual parties where everyone can show their home decoration, discuss their festive cuisine, and can even enjoy a dance party together at the festival. Virtual celebrations can be challenging at the beginning, but it is a new normal to celebrate and have fun.
9. Take lots of pictures- Honestly, we don’t dress up amidst the lockdown so, make use of these rare occasions. Dress well and record every moment. It’s always good to capture beautiful moments of life on your camera and display them on your walls.
10. Participate in some charity– Pandemic has been hard on everyone, especially poor and underprivileged people. During festival times and in such circumstances, we should reach out to them. The joy of giving will not only benefit them and add a smile on their faces but is deeply rewarding for us as well. It gives us inner peace, happiness, and satisfaction.
These are the ways we can celebrate festivals at our respective homes with simplicity.
This year tests our adaptability to change by confining us at home.
By productively making most of our time and still enjoying, we will not only lead a happy life but also create good memories for ourselves.
Looking through rose-colored glasses and staying happy is the need of the hour.
Let the vibrance of festivals fill you with positivity, and with positive thinking and a creative mindset, we can celebrate special festive days in style.

Wonderful ideas especially the last one, to participate in some charity. One thought always crosses my mind is, on festive occassion or on birthdays people used to visit orphanages and celebrate with kids, gift them, but now due to covid, I don’t think it’s possible to visit orphanages and I wonder what those kids must be going through without such occassional guests coming up and celebrating little happiness with them…
