Children between the age group 3-5years are Pre-schoolers. It is a stage just before a child starts for a big, full-time school. Reading aloud to kids has lots of benefits.

  1. Books by Julia Donaldson- Monkey Puzzle, The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, The Smartest Giant in Town, The Snail and the Whale, Room on the Broom are some popular and most loved books among preschool kids.
  2. All set to read series by Om Books international is for beginners level, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5readers level respectively. The books on each level have nice and fresh stories for you to read to your kids, and very soon, your little ones will pick these books to read on their own. Do consider buying a few books from these sets for your child.
  3. The ladybird series comes in for readers level 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each book sets have six books in them. These books cover some classic fairy tales that are an all-time favourite.
  4. The Caillou Series-My kid loves books from the Caillou series. Some books from the series are Caillou Dresses Up!, Caillou Goes Birdwatching, Caillou: Hiding Place, Caillou Rides a Bike, Caillou Rides on a Plane, and Caillou Walks a Dog. The child quickly connects with the protagonist Caillou and tries to learn nice things that he says and does.
  5. The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle– This book very beautifully expresses the life cycle of a flower- through  the adventure of a particular tiny seed. 
  6. The Enormous Crocodile-This is a gripping book by Roald Dahl. The child remains amused throughout the book. 
  7. Books by Oliver Jeffers– Lost and found- This is a cute book of friendship between a little boy and a penguin. The day the Crayons quit, The day the crayons came home are also two funny books by Oliver Jeffers, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading for my child.
  8. Ramayana for children by Pegasus and written by Sudha Gupta is a great book to introduce the most important Hindu epic of ancient India to your kids. The book is in English Language and has 192 pages with well-explained text and incident appropriate pictures.
  9. Peppa Pig books-The Peppa pig books are full of colourful pages, and the text on the book is coming out straight from their show. 
  10. Picturepedia Book-This is a great book full of pictures of the human body, inventions, dinosaurs, airplanes, cars, animals, insects, Earth, Science and Technology, nature, Geography, culture, sports, hobbies, and history all combine in this mind-blowing visual encyclopaedia. It is a thick book with good page quality. The child remains preoccupied and mesmerized, looking at amazing pictures. The picture and the page quality of the book are superb.
  11. Harold and the purple Crayon By Crockett Johnson- The book is about a little boy Harold and his purple crayon that he uses to draw parts of his world. It is full of both funny things done cleverly. I highly recommend this book. I read it as a child and wanted to read it for my kid as well. I was glad to know he also completely loved it. This book remained his favourite for many, many months.
  12. Pete The Cat Series– I have two books from this series, one is a collection of 10 stories, and the other one is Pete The Cat and cool caterpillar. The series is full of many groovy stories.
  13. The Giving Tree– This book has a very heart touching story of a boy and a tree.
  14. Books by Dr Seuss-You can pick a few from this series. The Cat and the Hat, Green Eggs and hams, Oh, the places you will go are some of the best.
  15. If excavators, dumpers fascinate your child- then you can buy books like Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site, My truck is stuck! by Kevin Lewis, and Little Blue Truck.
  16.  Panchatantra stories by Vishnu Sharma are very enthralling and help in feeding moral lessons in a child.
  17. Phonic Book Level 1-At this stage, your kid may not be able to read, but still, I suggest reading one page of a phonic book daily to them. Select a book that contains words like cat, bat, fat, etc. 
  18. Aesop’s fables books-These books have moral-based stories and help in building vocabulary in kids. Many storybooks come in this series. Buy a few books from this series based on the interest of your child.
  19. Mary had a little Glam– It is a lovely book which I am sure all the little girls would love to listen to daily.
  20. Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino and Steven Kellogg- This is a short and sweet book to read to your child.
  21. Giraffes Can’t Dance from author Giles Andreae- is a lovely book to keep your child allure in the jungle world.
  22. If Animals Kissed Goodnight-It is a book full of rhythmic lines you can read to your little ones before putting them to bed.
  23. Mash and the Bear (Folk tales) by Pegasus Team- The book version of Masha and the bear is as gripping as its TV Series.
  24. The Tiger who came to Tea By Judith Kerr-Even if the 5-decade old story does not make any sense to adults, this book makes the child giggle every time you read it to them.
  25. Usborne phonics books are great for kids. Do include them in the library of your tiny-tots.
  26. My Encyclopaedia of Very Important Things By DK– This is a fantastic book to learn about the things around us. 
  27. The Wonderful Things you will be By Emily Winfield Martin-The books illustrate the text in rhyme form. It instantly grabs the attention of the child, and they enjoy listening to it.
  28. Chika Chika Boom Boom By Bill Martin Jr.-This book for your child is full of fun learning. Kids can learn to recognize the English alphabets entertainingly. The repetition of alphabets will help in memorizing them. 
  29. Activity books-There are many activity books which include puzzles like maze solving, joining the dots, matching animals with their young ones, etc. All these activities are fun to do with kids. Books like Gruffalo, Peppa pig books have their activity books also related to the story.
  30. Colouring Books-Colouring improves the learning and gross motor skills of children. It is an enjoyable activity for them.

    I remember being read The Tiger who came to Tea when I was a kid! We also used to have these books that were pictures (without words) and you had to make up a story to go along with it
